Problem Resolution:
Any web problem can have
many variables (several networks, pc configurations, software, server
configurations, etc), and so the general way that we resolve issues
related to the web is to go through a series of steps to isolate the
problem, by testing various things to remove potential issues and narrow
down where the problem may be.
The first thing to test
for is to make sure the main domain name to the server is working. As
pages on the site are updated, it is possible that an older bookmark may
discontinue working. See if it will work by using the main domain name,
such as www.thedomain.com. If not, then it is likely a server,
software or network issue.
The server itself has
been very reliable and has only gone down once over the past 1 1/2
years. Therefore, it is likely either a software issue (a certain
combination of steps that is finding a bug or limitation in the
software), a network issue (an ISP or local company network issue, or PC
configuration issue (ie Proxi server configuration)), or some
combination of these.
A good way to test for
this is to first make sure you can access other web sites, such as
www.cnn.com. If so, then see if a local
colleague can access the site. If a local user can, then it may be
something going on with your own PC. You may want to reboot your system
to see if that will clear out whatever may be causing you to not be able
to get to the site. If a local user can not access the site, see if a
remote user can. If a remote user can access the site, then it may have
to do with your local company network or ISP. You may want to call your
local company helpdesk in this case to see if they can help get it
resolved. |
